CARSON — So far this season, Cal State San Bernardino has just one loss of more than two runs and Wednesday was no different as CSUSB fell 5-4 and 4-3 in a doubleheader to Cal State Dominguez Hills.

The Coyotes are just six runs away from being 7-4 instead of 4-7 after losing their second and third straight game by just one run.

CSUSB led 2-0 in the first inning on an RBI-double down the left field line by Courtney Wilhelms and a single to center by Felicia Cervantes. The Coyotes carried the two-run lead until the Toros scored four runs to take a 4-2 lead.

The Coyotes answered in the second with a two-run single by Jacquelyn Holtzclaw that scored Stefanie Pace and Jamie Leffingwell. That was the last hit the Coyotes had.

The 4-4 tie carried into the seventh and after the Toros put runners at first and second with two outs, Jackie Reyes delivered with a game-winning single to right.

Carly Land (0-3) took the loss after throwing the final 2.2 innings allowing just one run on three hits.

The Toros took a 4-0 lead early in the second game with a solo home run by Michelle Miranda in the third and a three-run home run by Emiley McEwen in the fourth and didn't lose the lead from there on.

CSUSB tried to rally with a pair of runs in the fifth and a solo home run down the left field line by Britney Butler, her fifth of the year, but Cal State San Bernardino couldn't push any more runs across the plate.

Cassidy Lee (1-2) threw the first 5.2 innings allowing four runs on four hits and struck out four in the loss.

The Coyotes get back to CCAA action with a pair of games with Cal State East Bay scheduled for Friday and Saturday.
