Box Score: Coyotes 64, CSU Dominguez Hills 42
CARSON -- For the second straight night, senior
Eisha Sheppard paved the way for the Cal State San Bernardino women's basketball team and the end result was a decisive 64-42 victory over host Cal State Dominguez Hills in CCAA play.
Sheppard led the way with 14 points and
Jessica Dela Cruz added 13 off the bench as the Coyotes improved to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the CCAA. The weekend sweep was CSUSB's first since sweeping the same two teams on Jan. 15-16, 2010.
The Coyotes broke away from the Toros (0-7, 0-2) with about 13 minutes remaining in the first half. Sheppard's basket put the Coyotes ahead 12-10 and ignited a 14-3 run in a five-minute stretch and CSUSB comfortably remained in the lead for the remainder of the game.
CSUSB led 33-20 at the break on the strength of firing 48.1 percent from field on 13-of-27 shooting.
The Coyotes' lead never got lower than 12 points as they are off to their best start since beginning the 2007-08 season 6-0. They'll have a shot at tying that stretch when they play at San Diego Christian on Dec. 15.
Sheppard was 7-of-13 from the floor and had two assists and two steals. Dela Cruz was 4-of-5 FGs including hitting on all three of her 3-point attempts. She also was 2 of 2 free throws with a team-high three assists.
