Box Score: Coyotes 60, Cal State L.A. 58
LOS ANGELES -- Senior
Eisha Sheppard scored a team-high 15 points, but her final two made the difference Friday night as she scored the game-winning basket with less than three seconds remaining as visiting Cal State San Bernardino defeated Cal State L.A. 60-58 in the Coyotes' California Collegiate Athletic Association opener.
The victory extends the Coyotes' record to 4-0 as they handed the Golden Eagles their first loss of the season.
The game was an even match throughout and it seemed that the game may have gone into overtime after the Golden Eagles' Lacy Ramon hit a pair of free throws to tie the game for the sixth time at 58-58 with 11 seconds left.
The Coyotes held the final possession and Sheppard found herself in position for an offensive rebound. She gathered the ball and fired a shot that dropped through with 2.6 seconds left.
CSUSB was 25-of-54 from the field (46.3 percent) and showed a solid passing game as the Coyotes had 18 assists on the night -- seven from
Sabrina Gonzalez, five from
Jasmine Blanche and four from Sheppard.
Gonzalez also had 13 points and senior
Danielle Shows had 12 points, seven rebounds and a block in just 15 minutes off the bench.
