SAN BERNARDINO
-- Junior Angela Streets scored a team-high 12 points and senior Sierra Chess added six, but it wasn't enough as the Cal State San Bernardino women's basketball team lost its first game of the season in a 61-44 loss to visiting CSU Monterey Bay in CCAA play Wednesday.

The loss puts the Coyotes at 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the CCAA, while the Otters remained unbeaten at 8-0, 4-0.

The Otters had four players in double figures as reserve LaShawn Johnson led the way with 12 points including a pair of 3-pointers.

A 21-5 run by the Otters that began at 13:32 of the first half put the Otters in control and the Coyotes faced an uphill battle for the remainder of the game. Chess hit a jumper that cut the lead to 31-22 with 28 seconds left in the first half, but that would be the last time CSUSB got inside a 10-point deficit the rest of the way.

The Coyotes were held to 26.8 percent from the floor on 15 of 56 shooting -- a season low.

Erika Ward, London Houchin and Holly Holcomb all scored 10 points for CSUMB.

Coyotes' leading scorer Eisha Sheppard was held scoreless. She entered play averaging 15.2 ppg.

The Coyotes return to the court at 3 p.m. Thursday when they play San Francisco State. The Gators are 1-7, 1-3 after their 66-47 loss at Cal Poly Pomona.

GAME NOTES: The Otters held CSUSB to its lowest offensive output of the season. The previous low was 59 against Western New Mexico... The 61 points from CSUMB are the most scored against the Coyotes this season. The previous high was 58 against Cal State L.A.... The Coyotes look to snap their 5-game losing streak against SFSU. The last time the Coyotes defeated the Gators was a 57-45 win on Dec. 1, 2007, at Coussoulis Arena.
