No. 7 Coyotes take care of Chico State in three

CSUSB returns home with matches against CSU East Bay and UC San Diego next week

-- No. 7 Cal State San Bernardino wasted little time in earning its final regular-season road match with a 3-0 win over Chico State in California Collegiate Athletic Association play Saturday night.

The victory was the Coyotes' 10th straight as the CCAA champions improved to 23-2 overall and 19-1 in the CCAA. It also was CSUSB's 17th 3-0 sweep this season.

Junior All-American Samantha Middleborn and senior Nicole Moore came up big in the 25-16, 25-17, 25-23 win before a crowd of 281. Middleborn was 10-2-15 on the attack with four block assists and Moore was 15-3-29 with two digs.

The Coyotes fired .321 on the attack (45-11-106) and trailed just once in the opening set, and broke away in set two wtih a 5-0 run after the set was tied at 8-8. The Coyotes were benificiaries of three attack errors from Chico State in that run.

In set three, 11 ties made the set tight. The Coyotes broke through with an advantage on a Wildcat service that put CSUSB up 22-19. Kills from Moore and Megan Johnson pushed CSUSB ahead 24-21.

Jessica Leak had a kill and after the Coyotes had an attack error, All-American Jane Chafeh finished the set and match with a kill.

CSUSB returns to Coussoulis Arena on Friday night when they play host to CSU East Bay, the only team to hand the Coyotes a conference loss this season.

The match is expected to begin approximately at 7:30 p.m. as the Coyotes' men's basketball will open the night with an exhibition game against Cal Lutheran that begins at 5 p.m.
