POMONA
-- The NCAA West Region volleyball poll was announced Wednesday afternoon and the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes found themselves at the top for the second consecutive week.

Later that night, the Coyotes rolled to a 3-0 win over host Cal Poly Pomona to earn the season sweep over the Broncos in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.

The AVCA's No. 8-ranked CSUSB improved to 19-2 overall and 15-1 by winning for the 16th time in its last 17 matches. The 3-0 win (25-17, 25-21, 25-18) was the Coyotes' 14th 3-0 win on the season.

Coach Kim Cherniss' All-American duo of senior Jane Chafeh and junior Samantha Middleborn stood out again before a crowd of 232 at Darlene May Gym. Chafeh fired a match-high 15 kills and Middleborn was right behind with 14 on a .667 attack percentage match (14-2-18) -- sure to keep her on top of the NCAA rankings.

Chafeh also had eight digs and two service aces on the night, and sophomore setter Camille Smith led the way with 34 assists. Kelcie Tolan also had nine digs -- a match-high -- and Morgan Carty also had two service aces.

Middleborn had one solo block and three block assists as the Coyotes were never threatened against the Broncos (9-12, 7-9).

CSUSB never trailed in the opening set and utilized a 5-0 run to take command at 12-4 on Carty's service ace.

Set two showed CSUSB in command as its only deficit was at 1-0. The Broncos closed to within a point twice midway through the set, but a Carty kill opened up a 4-0 run with an ace from Tolan, and kills from Middleborn and senior Nicole Moore gave the Coyotes enough cushion to earn the win.

Three consecutive Broncos attack errors -- the final one on block assists from Middleborn and Smith -- put CSUSB up 15-10 and the Broncos never could close the gap.

MATCH NOTES: CSUSB is in front of the second NCAA Regional poll, followed by Seattle Pacific, Western Washington, UC San Diego, Sonoma State, CSU Monterey Bay, San Francisco State, Alaska Anchorage, Hawaii Pacific and Cal State L.A.
