Box Score: No. 4 Coyotes def. CSU Stanislaus 3-1

SAN BERNARDINO
-- A consecutive set winning streak ended Saturday night for Cal State San Bernardino. But the bigger issue is and always will be match wins and the Coyotes made sure a victory was within reach.

Led by All-American Jane Chafeh's 18 kills and 16 digs, the fourth-ranked Coyotes defeated the visiting Cal State Stanislaus Warriors 3-1 (25-14, 25-17, 17-25, 25-14) for their 36th straight home victory and improved to 12-1 overall and atop the California Collegiate Athletic Association at 9-0.

CSUSB entered play attempting to establish a school record for consecutive matches won by a sweep at 10. Trailing 2-0, the Warriors (9-5, 6-3) ended that attempt at Coussoulis Arena by winning Set 3, but the Coyotes made sure the victory was in hand by storming out to 21-9 lead in the Set 4.

Chafeh led with an 18-5-43 effort on the attack (.302) and her sidekick All-American Samantha Middleborn was next in line with an 11-2-19 performance, good for a .474 percentage for the nation's top player in attack percentage.

The match marked just the second time all season that the Coyotes were extended to four sets. Consequently, their 57 total kills are a season-high for CSUSB.

Despite four tie scores in Set 1, CSUSB never allowed CSU Stanislaus to lead and the Coyotes utilized a .343 attack for the win.

The Warriors got to within a point on the Coyotes late in Set 2 at 18-17. But three kills from Nicole Moore helped trigger a 7-0 run to close out the set and put CSUSB in command at 2-0.

Three service aces from the Warriors' Jessica Lehner helped her team take a 6-1 lead in the early going and CSUS never gave up the lead. The Coyotes got to within seven points, but couldn't get over the hump.

Leading 12-7 in the final set, the Coyotes went on a 9-2 run. Chafeh had three of her 18 kills during that span and the Coyotes earned the win with a .306 attack percentage.

Moore had 10 kills for CSUSB, while setter Camille Smith had 36 assists. Libero Kelcie Tolan factored with 14 digs, and Middleborn had four block assists.

Lianne Vicchio led CSUS with 11 kills.

The Coyotes are on the road for the next two weeks. They'll begin the journey at UC San Diego on Friday night.
