Box Score: No. 8 Coyotes def. Cal Poly Pomona 2-0
POMONA -- Success has been an underlying theme for No. 8 Cal State San Bernardino's men's soccer team. And on Sunday afternoon, the Coyotes proved once again that the 2010 season is becoming a magical one.
The Coyotes'
Jose Godinez scored a goal and an assist and
Juan Galarza added a goal and sophomore GK
Tanner Olinger earned his second shutout in three days in a 2-0 win over Cal Poly Pomona in California Collegiate Athletic Association play at Kellogg Field.
The victory is CSUSB's third straight as it improves to 10-3-1 overall and 8-3-1 in the CCAA.
The weekend sweep was absolutely critical in helping CSUSB reach its postseason goal. The Coyotes entered the series ranked third in this week's NCAA West Region poll and the Broncos were right behind at No. 4.
Galarza gave the Coyotes a 1-0 lead in the 6th minute of play when he was on the receiving end from Godinez. A scramble for the ball found Galarza, who drove home the shot past Broncos GK Andrew Todd.
The game remained 1-0 CSUSB until Godinez pounded an unassisted shot in the 58th minute.
Olinger earned his shutout by turning back eight Broncos' shots.
CSUSB returns to Coyote Premier Field on Friday when they play host to CSU East Bay. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
