Toros women shut out CSUSB 1-0

Coyotes manage just 3 shots in second-straight scoreless outing; now 1-4

Senior Lauren Zellmer was one of two CSUSB players who had a shot on goal against the Toros Friday night.
CARSON -- Cal State Dominguez Hills' defense limited Cal State San Bernardino to just three shots in 90 minutes while the Toros peppered Coyotes' goalie Laura Lyons with 16 attempts, one of which found the net to give the Toros a 1-0 CCAA conference win.
The loss dropped the Coyotes to 1-4 on the season and 0-1 in the CCAA with Cal State L.A. up next on Sunday at the Golden Eagles field. The Toros are now 2-3, 1-1 in the CCAA.
Britney Vance of CSUDH scored her second goal of the season at 42:21 of the first half, rebounding her own missed shot.
Lyons saved eight shots on goal by the Toros in the 90-minute match before 132 fans. Jessica Murphy and Makenzie Pedrotti combined for nine shots, five of them on goal, but it was Vance who was successful.
Lindsey Witz, Jaclyn Clark and Lauren Zellmer were the only three Coyotes to attempt shots and Toros goalkeeper Alyssa Congdon stopped two of the tries.
The Toros outshot CSUSB 16-3 and were whistled for 16 fouls to just five for CSUSB.
The Coyotes have scored just three goals in five matches and two of those came in one match and have been shut out three times in the early going. Lyons has yielded just six goals in those five matches, all decided by one score.
Defensively, the Coyotes have nothing to be ashamed of thus far in 2009.
