Coyotes rip winless Urban Knights

CSUSB pounds on 23 hits in rout of Academy of Art University

Freshman Darren Dworak drove in three runs with a pair of hits Friday in 18-2 win over Academy of Art.

    CARSON -- Cal State San Bernardino pounded out 23 hits Friday in an 18-2 non-conference victory over winless Academy of Art University, a first-year NCAA Div. II program competing in the Pacific West Conference in a game played at Cal State Dominguez Hills.
    Johnnie Haas had three hits, including a home run and five RBI in the game for CSUSB. Teammate Jesus Beltran had three hits, including a home run and two RBI. Both players scored three times. Freshman designated hitter Darren Dworak had two hits and three RBI.
    Senior catcher Chris Olsen and junior second baseman Brent Planck each had three hits in the game as the Coyotes improved to 18-16 on the season.
    Six CSUSB pitchers went to the mound, combining for 11 strikeouts while allowing nine hits by the Urban Knights, now 0-23 on the season.
    The Coyotes resume CCAA play on Friday, starting a four-game series at Sonoma State. The Coyotes are 12-11 in conference play.
