SEASIDE -- Cal State San Bernardino lost both ends of a CCAA softball doubleheader to Cal State Monterey Bay for the second straight day, dropping Saturday's games 9-5 and 2-1 as their record sank to 9-15 overall and 4-8 in the CCAA.
Missing two of their best starting pitchers --
Rachel Lopez and
Carly Land -- CSUSB hurlers were knocked around in game one, giving up nine runs on 11 hits and committing three errors.
Trailing 5-2 into the sixth, the Coyotes tied the game up with three runs on just one hit and a costly Otters error.
Stefanie Pace and
Jacquelyn Holtzclaw both pickup up RBIs on ground ball outs.
However, the Otters regained the lead with a four-run sixth on four hits and a Coyotes error. The big blow was a two-run single by Shea Olds.
Priscilla Curiel was two-for-four in the game for CSUSB.
In trhe nightcap, the Coyotes had seven hits but produced only one run as Shelair Rowell went the distance for the Otters in the circle, allowing one unearned run with four strikeouts. CSUSB got its only run in the top of the first on a leadoff double by
Debbie Shisler and stole third with two out and scored on a passed ball.
The Coyotes stranded nine runners against Rowell.
