SEASIDE -- Cal State Monterey Bay scored three runs off CCAA pitcher of the week
Debbie Shisler in the first inning and held off Cal State San Bernardino for a 3-2 win Friday in the first game of their four-game CCAA series.
The Otters quieted the Coyote bats in the second game, shutting them out 5-0 behind the four-hit pitching of Michelle Tating.
The sweep improved the Otters to 7-3 in the conference and 9-11-1 overall, while the Coyotes are now 4-6 in the CCAA and 9-13 overall.
The two teams play a second conference twinbill on Saturday and then play a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday.
Lucia Rodriguez' two-run homer capped the three-run opening inning for the Otters in game one.
CSUSB picked up a run in the fourth as Tory Beaudette scored an unearned run on an error. In the sixth inning, the Coyotes left the bases loaded after
Jocelyn Perry walked with the bases loaded to force in a run. Tating, however, struck out
Priscilla Curiel to end the inning.
In game two, Monterey Bay scored three runs off CSUSB pitcher
Courtney Wilhelms in the third with Rodriguez again delivering the big blow, a two-run double. The Otters added two more in the fourth on a two-run double by Ashley Trotter.
Tating faced only three batters over the minimum. A double by Curiel was CSUSB's only extra base hit in the game.
