Coyotes sweep Chico in softball

Shisler gets credit for both wins as CSUSB prevails 1-0, 2-1 in 11 innings

Brittany Hoban doubled in the game-winning run in the 11th inning Saturday as CSUSB swept Chico State.
CHICO -- After pitching a one-hit shutout over Chico State on Friday, Cal State San Bernardino senior Debbie Shisler limited the Wildcats to just two hits as the Coyotes won Saturday's first game of a doubleheader, 1-0.
Shisler came on in relief of freshman Maggie Karros in the nightcap and got credit for the win, going four innings as CSUSB won 2-1 in 11 innings to take the four-game CCAA series 3-1. Chico State won the series opener 6-5 on Friday.
CSUSB improved its CCAA record to 4-4 and its season record to 8-10.
The only run in game one was produced in the sixth inning as Shisler led off with a bunt single, advanced to second on a sacrifice and came home on junior Jocelyn Perry's pinch-hit single to right center off Wildcats starter Lauren Walker.
Walker didn't pitch badly, limiting the Coyotes to just five hits while striking out five. Shisler went the distance, didn't walk a batter and struck out three.
In the marathon second game, both teams scored in the third and it remained 1-1 until the top of the 11th when CSUSB finally broke through. With two out, Felicia Cervantes and Priscilla Curiel both singled and Rhiannon Treat, pinch-running for Cervantes came home on an RBI double by Brittany Hoban.
The first CSUSB run in the third came when Alex Mitchell and Tori Beaudette singled and Mitchell scored as Ashley Collinwood grounded out.
Karros pitched 6.1 innings, allowed eight hits and struck out one but didn't walk a batter. Shisler took over in the seventh and pitched 4.2 innings, giving up just three hits and striking out one to earn the victory.
