CHICO -- Senior right-hander
Debbie Shisler pitched a complete-game one-hitter for Cal State San Bernardino Friday as the Coyotes salvaged a split of their CCAA softball doubleheader with host Chico State, 2-0.
Chico State won the opener 6-5, scoring the winning run with two out in the bottom of the seventh.
CSUSB is now 6-10 overall and 2-4 in the CCAA heading into Saturday's doubleheader against the Wildcats.
Shisler struck out three and walked two in her pitching gem and her pitching counterpart, Jessica McDermott of Chico did almost as well, allowing just four hits in the game and both of the runs the Coyotes scored were unearned because of Wildcat errors in the sixth inning.
In the sixth,
Alex Mitchell and
Priscilla Curiel both reached via singles and scored on a costly Wildcat error. Mitchell was two-for-three in the game while Curiel was one-for-two.
Jocelyn Perry got the other CSUSB hit off McDermott.
Jenna Wermes got Chico's only hit, a double.
It was Wermes who did in the Coyotes in the first game, delivering a game-winning RBI single with two out in the bottom of the seventh to give Chico their 6-5 win.
In that game, Curiel was two-for-four with two runs scored and an RBI while
Ashley Collinwood was two-for-four with two RBI. Christine Johnson was four-for-four for the Wildcats with two runs scored and an RBI. Gwen Cox was two-for-four with two runs scored an an RBI. Rebecca Johnson drove in two runs as well.
The Coyotes left 10 runners on base in the seven-inning contest.
Chico took an early 4-0 lead off CSUSB pitcher
Carly Land (0-3) but the Coyotes rallied to tie the game with four in the fourth.
