Cal State San Bernardino's women's soccer team has eight matches remaining in the regular season, starting Friday at Cal State Monterey Bay, and the Coyotes' goal is to cement a place among the top six teams in the NCAA West Region.
The Coyotes were ranked No. 5 in the first official regional poll of the NCAA championships committee that was released this week. The top six teams in the final poll advance to the regional tournament on Nov. 8-11 at a site to be determined.
CSUSB, 6-5-1 overall and 5-2-1 in the CCAA, will take on the Otters at their Seaside field at 3 p.m. Friday. Monterey Bay is 1-6-1 in the conference and 2-8-2 overall. On Sunday, the Coyotes take on San Francisco State, 1-5-2 in CCAA play and 3-6-3 overall.
The Coyotes are currently sitting in fourth place in the CCAA South Division standings with 16 points. If CSUSB is among the top four teams in points accumulated in conference play they could advance to the CCAA championship tournament.
Ahead on the schedule are home matches against Chico State, currently ranked No. 3 in the West Region, on Oct. 16, and Cal Poly Pomona, currently No. 9, on Oct. 30. Also ahead is a road match at No. 4 UC San Diego on Oct. 23.
