CSUSB edges East Bay, 2-1

Kristina Gomez scores match-winning goal for Coyotes

Jaclyn Clark boots the ball away from Chico State players in recent match. She scored CSUSB's first goal in win over Cal State East Bay Sunday.
HAYWARD -- Sophomore Kristina Gomez scored her sixth goal of the season late in the first half for a 2-0 lead and Cal State San Bernardino held off Cal State East Bay in the second half Sunday for a 2-1 CCAA conference women's soccer victory.
The victory improved the Coyotes to 9-7-2 overall and 8-4-2 in the CCAA South Division with two matches remaining in the regular season, starting Friday at home against Cal Poly Pomona. Cal State East Bay, which lost 5-0 to CSUSB in San Bernardino, played well but fell to 3-12-3 overall and 2-10-2 in the CCAA.
Gomez' goal was her team-leading sixth of the season and her fourth match-deciding goal. It came in the  42nd minute just before halftime on a short kick inside the box off an assist by junior Katie Liby. Earlier, Jaclyn Clark gave CSUSB a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute on a 20-yard blast after a pass from sophomore Mackenzie Dill.
Cal State East Bay, trailing 2-0 at halftime, responded with a goal in the 73rd minute by Carly Genzoli, a diagonal shot off a feed from Shianna Falk.
CSUSB held on with senior goalkeeper Laura Lyons stopping four Pioneer shots.
Offenses were both clicking as the two teams combined for 32 shots, 14 of which were on goal. East Bay keeper Nina Cefalo had seven saves in the net.
