SAN FRANCISCO -- Unheralded San Francisco State threw a temporary monkey wrench into Cal State San Bernardino's progress toward a post-season appearance with a 2-0 shutout of the Coyotes in a CCAA conference women's soccer match at the Gators field.
The Gators, 5-6-3 overall and 3-5-2 in the conference, allowed just six Coyotes shots in the 90-minute match, none by any of CSUSB's top scorers, in slowing down the Coyote express that had gone 6-1-1 in its last eight contests. The Coyotes are now 7-6-1 overall and 6-3-1 in the CCAA.
Zoila Marquez put the Gators up 1-0 in the 42nd minute of the first half, knocking home the rebound of a missed shot in front of the Coyotes net. Katie Voss gave the Gators an insurance score in the 76th minute when she ran onto a through ball from Andrea Carey and knocked the ball in from close range. It was Voss' sixth goal of the season.
Gators goalkeeper Annisia Jones stopped three Coyotes shots on goal, two by
Jenna Sanchez and one by
Jaclyn Clark.
Ashley Haagsma's header try in the 84th minute went wide and a shot in the 85th minute by defender
Ashley Wolf was blocked by defenders.
CSUSB returns home next Friday and Sunday to host Chico State and Cal State Stanislaus.
