Coyotes thump Chaminade, 7-1

Jose Godinez scores three goals, assists on another in Monday's victory

Jose Godinez scores three times, collects an assist in 7-1 CSUSB win.

SAN BERNARDINO, Ca.. – Sophomore Jose Godinez recorded the first collegiate hat trick of his career and and assisted on another goal Monday as Cal State San Bernardino rolled past Chaminade, 7-1, in a non-conference men's soccer match at Coyote Premier Field.
The victory improved the Coyotes to 4-5-1 overall while the Silverswords from Honolulu are now 1-9-1, ending a six-match road trip to the mainland.
Two of Godinez' goals, it must said, came in the final 25 seconds of a match that had already been decided by the 60th minute when the Coyotes went up 4-1 on an unassisted goal by defender Jeff Meyer
Chaminade actually drew first blood in the 18th minute of play on a shot by the Silverswords' Chad Thompson who collected a loose ball deep in the penalty area and kicked the ball inside the far post as CSUSB goal keeper Tyler Kahn came off his line in an effort to field the ball.
It was the only shot of the half for Chaminade and it looked like it would hold up until intermission.     However, Godinez got the equalizer in the 43rd minute on an angled shot to the far post from a pass by Harry Cruz to make it 1-1 at intermission.
Nine minutes into the second half, Albert Cabrera scored would proved to be the match-deciding goal on a blast inside the far post off a pass by Brock Steele and a header by Godinez..
CSUSB added two more goals in the space of four minutes for a 4-1 lead. Cabrera added another goal in the 83rd minute, his third of the season.
The Silverswords were limited to just five shots in the match, three on goal. Reserve goalkeeper Arath De La Rocha, who relieved Kahn late in the first half, finished the match with two saves to earn the win.
Chaminade keepers Matt Muntz and Tanner Meyer had 10 saves between them. Meyer gave up only one of the Coyotes' goals.
The Coyotes will host San Francisco State at 3 p.m. Friday and Cal State Monterey Bay at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday in a pair of CCAA matches. CSUSB is 3-2-1 in the CCAA after Sunday's big 3-0 win at UC San Diego.
