Cal State San Bernardino rolled to its fourth straight victory Sunday, handing Western Oregon University a 5-0 defeat in a non-conference women's soccer match before 257 fans at Coyote Premier field.
With the win, the Coyotes improve to 4-1-1 on the season while the Wolves head back to Salem, Ore., with a 3-4 record after losing to the Coyotes and Cal Poly Pomona on their road trip to Southern California.
Senior forward
Krista Feer scored the first two goals for the Coyotes, the first one coming in the 43rd minute of the first half for a 1-0 CSUSB lead at intermission.
Feer's second goal off linked passes from
Lisa Montgomery and
Lindsey Jordan came in the 51st minute. Freshman
Casey Hirsch scored her first goal of the season in the 62nd minute, assisted by sophomore
Katie Liby. Liby then scored an unassisted goal in the 83rd minute and sophomore
Ashley Haagsma completed the scoring with a one-touch shot off a crossing pass from sophomore
Megan Monahan.
The Wolves had some opportunities, forcing Coyotes goalkeeper
Leslie Rhodes to make four saves. It was the 12th shutout of Rhodes' four-year career at CSUSB.
WOU managed just seven shots in the match, two each by Melinda Ingalls and Jessica Hicks.
Brittney Rigtrup allowed one goal in the first half and Kelsie Blachly took over goaltending duties in the second half, making four saves.
The Coyotes had 16 shots in the match, 11 of them on goal.
CSUSB will be on the road next weekend for CCAA conference matches at Cal State Stanislaus on Friday and Chico State on Sunday.
