Coyotes beat Otters, 5-1, in series finale

CSUSB takes 3 of 4 in series; Haas wields hot bat

Johnnie Haas had three hits Sunday and drove in a run in the ninth inning.
SEASIDE -- Cheyne Hann pitched seven innings of shutout ball and Johnnie Haas continued his hot hitting with three hits Sunday as Cal State San Bernardino defeated Cal State Monterey Bay, 5-1, in their CCAA baseball series finale.
The victory left the Coyotes one win shy of the .500 mark for the season at 18-19 and improved their CCAA record to 9-15 while the Otters are now 8-28 on the season, 6-22 in the CCAA.
Hann (5-1), the CCAA pitcher of the week after his two-hit shutout victory over Cal State Stanislaus last weekend, yielded just five hits and struck out five Sunday as the Coyotes took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the eighth.
The Otters got a run in the home half of the eighth, but the Coyotes -- aided by back-to-back errors by the Otters on one play -- scored three times in the ninth to seal the game. Haas, who was three-for-four in the game, drove in the final run with a single. CSUMB committed four errors in the game.
Nate Pratt and Justin Watson also collected RBIs in the game. Lucas Allendorf (0-1) pitched well for CSUMB, going seven innings and giving up two earned runs. He struck out three and managed to get out of trouble despite walking eight.
The Coyotes remain on the road this coming week, playing a four-game series at San Francisco State, their third straight excursion into Northern California.
