POMONA -- Senior midfielder
Lindsey Jordan scored what proved to be the match-winning goal in the first half Wednesday night as Cal State San Bernardino squeaked past Cal Poly Pomona, 2-1, in a CCAA women's soccer match at Kellogg Field.
The victory improved the Coyotes to 9-4-4 overall and 6-3-2 in the CCAA. The three points CSUSB received for the win gives them 20 in conference play and keeps them in the fifth spot for a berth in the CCAA conference championship tournament. Only four teams advance to that tournament.
It also helps CSUSB stay in the hunt for one of six spots in the NCAA West Regional tournament. The team is currently ranked No. 7 in the region with three matches remaining in the regular season starting on Sunday at Cal State L.A.
Jordan's fourth goal of the season came off an assist from senior
Krista Feer. Earlier, sophomore
Jenna Sanchez scored her first goal of the season off an assist by junior
Lisa Montgomery. The lone Broncos goal was by Pamela Leyva off an assist by Mary Carroll. Cal Poly is now 6-8-2 overall and 3-7-1 in the CCAA. It was the team's fifth loss in a row.
CSUSB swept the season series with CPP, taking the first meeting 3-2 on Sept. 10 at Coyote Premier Field.
