Freshman outside hitter Morgan Carty put together the most productive night of her collegiate career Saturday as Cal State San Bernardino swept Cal State Monterey Bay, 3-0, in a CCAA conference volleyball match before 421 fans in Coussoulis Arena.
Carty, the former Upland High School star, had a match and career high 11 kills to go with eight digs and three block assists as the Coyotes prevailed over the scrappy Otters 25-15, 25-16 and 25-17 to improve to 18-2 on the season and 10-2 in the CCAA.
The Coyotes, ranked No. 2 in the Pacific Region and No. 3 in the nation, will hit the road next weekend to play Cal State Stanislaus and CCAA contender Chico State.
CSUSB Head Coach
Kim Cherniss played most of her starters only two of the three sets, allowing reserves more playing time and it worked out, although the Otters made things interesting in all three sets before falling.

Head Coach
Kim Cherniss started two freshmen – Carty and Samantha Middleborn. Middleborn had seven kills on .700 hitting with two block assists.
Alisha Thomas led the Otters with a double-double – 10 kills and 12 digs while Dana Grimm had 21 assists. CSUMB hit just .113 against the Coyotes defense while the Coyotes hit .321 in the match.
Although the Coyotes won by a wide margin, the Otters showed some spunk by challenging in the early part of each set.
CSUSB was up just 12-10 after a kill by the Otters Rheanna Fall in the first set, but went on a 7-0 run capped by an Otters error to make it 19-10. CSUSB closed out the set on a kill by Rice.
In the second set, it was tied at 4-4 and the Otters hung around, tailing just 10-8 on a shared block by Grimm and Tiffaney Riggs who had three on the night. However, CSUSB outscored the Otters 9-4 to take a 19-12 lead on an Otters error.
Rice once again nailed the final point of the set.
In the third set, Monterey Bay took the lead 6-5 on a shared block by Grimm and Elizabeth Hanna and was still in the hunt while trailing 11-8. However the Coyotes outscored CSUMB 9-6 to lead 20-14 on a kill by Carty.
Reserve
Deanna Bathauer closed out the match with a kill for the Coyotes.
The Coyotes are now 11-0 all-time against Monterey Bay and are 11-0 at home this season, 7-0 in conference play. CSUSB is now 72-7 since the start of the 2006 season and 46-4 in the CCAA as they continue their quest for a third straight conference championship.
