Alyssa Marin caught up to a through ball and knocked it into the net Tuesday to give Cal State San Bernardino's women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Grand Canyon University in a non-conference match at Coyote Premier Field.
The Coyotes, winners of only one match in 2006, are now 3-0-1 on the 2007 season under Interim Head Coach Diego Bocanegra.
Marin's match-deciding goal came in the 19th minute, aided by linked passes from junior
Krista Feer and sophomore
Lauren Zellmer. The Coyotes misfired on some other chances and stout keeper work by GCU goalie Shela Robertson (five saves) kept the match close.
CSUSB outshot the visitors (0-4-1) by a total of 15-3. Vanessa Young and Janelle Salazar were the only Grand Canyon players to deliver shots on goal as goalkeeper
Leslie Rhodes notched her second shutout of the season and ninth of her three-year career at CSUSB.
