Coyotes beat UCSD, L.A. on the road

CSUSB sweeps No. 16 Golden Eagles, No. 21 Tritons

    Cal State San Bernardino increased to five the number of top 25 teams in Division II that it as beaten this volleyball season with a 3-0 victory over UC San Diego, ranked No. 21, and a 3-1 win over Cal State L.A., ranked No. 16 on back-to-back nights.
    Both wins came on the road and improved the Coyotes to 13-1 on the season (the only loss was a 3-1 decision at Cal Baptist on Sept. 13) and 5-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
    In the win over UCSD, junior Jessica Granados had a double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs to go with five blocks and three service aces. Freshman Jane Chafeh had 12 kills. Senior Sharea Drawn had 11 kills and four blocks. Sara Hoffman assisted on 42 kills and had 14 digs and three aces.
    Libero Meghan Haas had 17 digs as the Coyotes rolled 30-16, 30-22 and 30-28 over the host Tritons.
    At Cal State L.A., Granados led the way with 19 kills, two service aces, two blocks and eight digs while Drawn had 12 kills, four aces and five blocks. Sophomore Ashtin Hall had double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs. Hoffman supplied 51 assists and Haas had 24 digs. Junior middle blocker Sara Rice contributed seven blocks, two of them solo in the match which saw LA win the first game 31-29. CSUSB won the next three -- 30-16, 30-23, and 30-28.
    A crowd of over 700 fans watched the match at UCSD while 340 attended the L.A. match.
    Through 14 matches, Granados leads CSUSB in kills, averaging 4.74 per game with a team-high 30 service aces. Drawn is averaging 3.64 kills per game on .411 hitting with 36 blocks. Chafeh is averaging 2.92 kills per game with 20 blocks. Hoffman is averaging 14 assists per game and Haas is averaging 5.7 digs per game.
