Junior forward Melissa Lindsay's third goal of the season proved the difference Friday as Chico State notched a 1-0 win over Cal San Bernardino in a California Collegiate Athletic Association women's soccer match at Coyote Premier Field.
The improved the Wildcats to 5-4 overall and 2-3 in the CCAA while CSUSB is now 3-4-2 and just 0-4-1 in the CCAA.
After a scoreless first half in which the Wildcats dominated play, taking nine shots on goal to just two for CSUSB, Chico State broke through on a low shot from the 18-yard line by Lindsay off a crossing pass to her feet by senior midfielder Katherine Bagwell.
Both teams had opportunities to score more goals. The Coyotes became more aggressive in the seocnd half, forcing Wildcats goalkeeper Kari Gonzales to make four of her five saves in the final 45 minutes. It was her third shutout of the year.
Leslie Rhodes stopped five shots on goal, all in the first half, for CSUSB.
The defeat was the fourth loss by one goal for the Coyotes this season.
