Makena Overbey joined the CSUSB women's volleyball coaching staff in the summer of 2024.
Before joining, she had an extensive volleyball career, starting at Rancho Valley Volleyball Club. Overbey played at Los Osos High School, achieving Second Team All-Conference her sophomore year and First Team All-Conference her junior and senior years. Aside from her athletic achievements, she also earned the Scholar Athlete Award all four years.Â
Following high school, she played at University of Alaska Fairbanks for her freshman and sophomore seasons, leading the Nanooks in aces and digs.
Overbey’s junior year was spent playing for the Yotes at CSUSB. While on the team, the Coyotes achieved first in CCAA and won the CCAA Championship. Following the season, Overbey was named CCAA Libero of the Year in 2021 and earned herself a spot on the Second Team All-West Region as well as Second Team All-CCAA. She also received CCAA All-Tournament Team.Â
In her senior year, Overbey was named captain and helped the team to a 20-7 record for the season. She achieved Defensive Player of the Week along with Second Team All-CCAA.
Aside from her volleyball performance, she also attained a Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice for Cal State San Bernardino.
After graduating in 2023, she coached at Etiwanda High School, where she led the boys'Â volleyball program to their first CIF win in school history. Overbey also coaches at Rancho Valley Volleyball Club.Â
