Darren Leslie

Darren Leslie begins his fifth season as CSUSB men’s soccer head coach in 2020.

Leslie and the Coyotes are coming off one of the best seasons in program history in 2019 with the Coyotes finishing the year ranked as the #5 team in the nation. With a 14-4-3 record this was the highest finish for the men’s soccer program in the Division II era. Season highlights included a first NCAA post season win (1-0 @ Cal Poly Pomona) followed by a come-from-behind victory in the “Sweet Sixteen” to advance past Colorado School of the Mines. To round off an incredible season, Freshman recruit Frank Daroma also became the first ever 1st Team All-American selection in program history.

2018 was also a banner year for Coach Leslie, as he was named CCAA Coach of the Year with a 12-6-1 record. His Coyotes defeated San Francisco State in the CCAA Quarterfinals behind CCAA Player of the Year Danny Ortiz. Just the third CCAA Coach of the Year in program history, he has led 14 All-CCAA selections and four All-Region honorees.

Leslie has amassed a 44-24-6 record since his appointment as the ninth-full time men’s soccer coach at CSUSB, ranking him as the second winningest coach in program history.

A native of Aberdeen, Scotland and a graduate of the University of Edinburgh, coach Leslie began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at the College of Marin. In his four years with the Mariners, Coach Leslie helped turn a 1-14-4 program into a playoff regular while also helping his student-athletes to graduate and compete at the NCAA and NAIA level. Leslie also serves as an assistant coach with the Academy teams of FC Golden State in the USSDA.
