Men's Soccer Draws at #7 Point Loma to Open 2026

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -  The California State University San Bernardino men's soccer team opened the 2026 season with a 1-1 draw against #7 Point Loma Nazarene University Thursday afternoon at the PLNU Soccer Field.

With the draw, CSUSB moves to 0-0-1 on the season.

San Bernardino struck first in the 10th minute when Jahir Gonzalez-Sandoval sent a left-footed cross into the box, finding Titus Alviso, who connected on an off-balance header and put it into the back of the net to give the Yotes an early 1-0 lead.

The Yotes continued to create chances following the opening goal and carried their 1-0 advantage into the halftime break. By the time the halftime whistle sounded, CSUSB held a 5-3 lead in shots.

The advantage held until the 67th minute, when a right-footed cross into the box was tapped into the back of the net for the Sea Lion equalizer. The play was initially ruled offside, but after a video review, the call was overturned to make it 1-1.

Both sides battled through a highly contested final 23 minutes, but neither was able to find the go-ahead goal as the match ended in a 1-1 draw.

San Bernardino finished with a 9-6 advantage in shots, with both sides putting two shots on target.

In goal, fifth-year Donovan Palomares made one save to start the season 0-0-1 between the pipes.

Next up, the Yotes play their home opener against Biola University on Saturday at Premier Field. Kickoff is slated for 11:30 a.m.
