SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – The California State University San Bernardino baseball team completed the four-game sweep of Cal State Los Angeles Sunday afternoon in a CCAA contest at Fiscalini Field.
With the victory, the Coyotes run their winning streak to eight games and improve to 13-12 overall on the season and 7-5 in the CCAA.
Cal State LA scored the first run of the game in the top of the first, but CSUSB responded with a two-run single from freshman
Tyson Pettingill (Overton, Nev.).
LA scored twice in the top of the second to briefly reclaim the lead, but senior
Jeremy Giesegh (Upland, Calif.) leveled the score with an RBI single in the bottom of the frame.
The Coyotes broke the contest wide open in the bottom of the third, scoring 10 runs. The big blow came on a
Patrick Fregoso (Eastvale, Calif.) grand slam over the wall in center, while
Juni Rodriguez (Hemet, Calif.),
Dom Dominguez (Victorville, Calif.), and Giesegh all delivered RBI hits in the inning.
The Coyotes were not even close to being done, as they plated 13 more in the bottom of the fourth to go ahead 26-6.
Garret Barto (Pittsburgh, Pa.) hit two home runs in the inning, while Giesegh and Pettingill each hit two run shots in the frame.
An RBI fielder's choice from
Eddie Alfaro (Moreno Valley, Calif.) and a Dominguez RBI single in the fifth put CSUSB up 28-6.
Rodriguez capped the scoring in the contest with an RBI single in the bottom of the eighth to run the score to 29-10.
The 29 runs scored by the Yotes is the most in a single game in its Division II era, and the Coyotes scattered 25 hits in the win. Giesegh was CSUSB's offensively leader in the win, going 5-for-6 with four RBIs and four runs scored, while Dominguez went 4-for-4 with four RBIs and Rodriguez went 4-for-7 with five runs batted in.
