SAN MARCOS, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino baseball team claimed a series victory by defeating Cal State San Marcos 11-1 Sunday afternoon in CCAA action at Dennis A. Pugh Field.
With the victory, the Coyotes improve to 8-12 overall on the season and 3-5 in the CCAA.Â
CSUSB got the ball rolling right away with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. Freshman
Tyson Pettingill (Overton, Nev.) broke the ice with an RBI single, followed by a sacrifice fly from junior
Juni Rodriguez (Hemet, Calif.).Â
The Coyotes doubled the lead in the top of the fourth with a two-run double from senior
Jeremy Giesegh (Upland, Calif.), stretching CSUSB's lead to 4-0.
San Marcos plated their lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth, but it was cancelled out by a
Dom Dominguez (Victorville, Calif.) RBI single in the top of the seventh.
The Coyotes put the contest out of reach by putting a six-spot on the board in the top of the eighth. Redshirt senior
Garret Barto (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and Dominguez each hit two-run home runs in the inning, with Giesegh posting an RBI double and Pettingill scoring on a wild pitch.
Dominguez, Pettingill, and Barto each had three hits in the win, accounting for nine of CSUSB's 13 hits in the ballgame.
On the bump, the win went to senior
Harrison Cordeiro (Chicago, Ill.), who threw five innings allowing one earned run on three hits with three strikeouts. Relievers
Jesse Alfaro (Moreno Valley, Calif.) and
Ethan Bautista (Azusa, Calif.) combined to throw four shutout innings, allowing just one hit.
The Coyotes will return to action on Tuesday to play Hope International University at Fiscalini Field. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
