Women's Basketball Ties Program 3-Pointer Record in Win over Cal State East Bay

HAYWARD, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's basketball team made history on Friday evening, matching the program record of 13 made 3-pointers on their way to an 84-65 win over Cal State East Bay in CCAA action at Pioneer Gymnasium.

With the victory, the Coyotes pick up their third consecutive win to improve to 5-5 overall and 3-2 in the CCAA.

Despite the offensive firepower in the win, the first quarter did not go as planned for the Yotes. The Pioneers outpaced the visitors 18-9, holding CSUSB to just 3-of-15 (20.0 percent) shooting in the opening 10 minutes. Coyote senior guard Rebecca Saidoff (West Hills, Calif.) accounted for eight of CSUSB's nine points, thanks in part to a pair of made triples.

Cal State San Bernardino righted the ship in quarter number two, outscoring Cal State East Bay 25-13 to take a 34-31 lead into the locker room. Junior Citlali Salazar (Los Angeles, Calif.) scored nine points in the quarter for the Coyotes, four of which coming on a 9-0 run that gave the Yotes their first lead since the game's opening minutes late in the half.

CSUSB could not miss in the third quarter, as the Yotes began to pull away. The Coyotes scored 30 points, led by 12 and 10 points from Saidoff and sophomore Princess Cassell (Eastvale, Calif.) respectfully. Cal State San Bernardino went 11-of-19 (57.9 percent) from the floor, while knocking down six 3s.

The Yotes sealed the deal by shutting down the Pioneers in the fourth. Cal State East Bay made only four field goals on 20 attempts (25.0 percent) while shooting 60.0 percent (9-of-15) on the other end to secure the win. Salazar was the leading Coyote scorer in the final period, posting seven points.

Four players, all starters, hit double figures for the Coyotes in the win. Leading the way was Cassell with a career-high 22 points, while Saidoff poured in 22 of her own. Salazar also matched a career-best with 16 points and a game-high six assists, while forward Jaushlynn Ruffin (Compton, Calif.) posted 10.

Next up for the Coyotes, they will look to remain hot with a contest at San Francisco State on Sunday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
