Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's volleyball team rallied from two sets down to defeat #16 Point Loma Nazarene University to close out the San Diego Invitational. Set scores were 23-25, 21-25, 25-15, 25-22, and 15-13.
With the defeat, CSUSB improves to 3-0 overall on the young season.
After dropping the first two sets, CSUSB rallied to win sets three and four to force a winner-take-all fifth.
The Coyotes recorded 14 kills and hit .406 in the third set to get back into the match. Kacie Pedersen (Riverside, Calif.) had four kills in the set, while M'Kera Drake (San Bernardino, Calif.), Sarai Ross (San Bernardino, Calif.), and Allison Legates (Los Altos, Calif.) all chipped in three.
CSUSB trailed by as many as five in the early stages of set four, but came all the way back to extend the match. Pedersen continued to go off with an astounding seven kills in the set, while Ross contributed six of her own
The Yotes fell behind early in set five, but climbed all the way back to pull off the stunning victory. CSUSB was just two points away from suffering defeat when they were down 13-11, but would not concede another point. After another Pedersen kill and a Pedersen service ace, the Sea Lions had back-to-back attack errors to put the contest to bed.Â
Pedersen had a career match for the Coyotes, notching 22 kills with just four errors for a .300 attack percentage. Ross looked strong as well, with 17 kills and a .311 attack percentage.
Next up for the Coyotes, they will travel to Alaska to start the Denali Bank Ice Block Classic at Alaska-Fairbanks. Their first contest will be played at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday against Rockhurst.
