Women's Volleyball Bests Rollins to Close Alaska Trip

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The California State University San Bernardino women's volleyball team defeated the Rollins College Tars in four sets on the final day of the Denali State Bank Ice Block Classic on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Coyotes improve to 5-2.

After Rollins took an early lead, CSUSB responded with five consecutive points. It would remain a back-and-forth first set with the Tars eventually holding a 23-22 lead until the Yotes scored three points in a row to take the first set 25-23, finished by a kill by Sarai Ross (Beaumont, Calif.).

The Tars responded by taking the second set 25-21. Despite losing the set, junior Allison Legates (Los Altos, Calif.) recorded back-to-back service aces in the set.

CSUSB had their best set of the match in the third set, recording 18 kills and took an early lead that they never relinquished. The first four points for CSUSB were all kills by junior Kacie Pedersen (Riverside, Calif.) as part of her match-high 25 kills. Additionally, senior Charli Blackman (Auckland, New Zealand) recorded three of her four kills in the third.

The fourth set continued to be a back-and-forth, and Rollins held a 21-20 lead, but CSUSB was able to finish off the match and forced an attack error by Rollins to secure the win.

Besides Pedersen's 25, sophomore Kisa Sagiao (San Diego, Calif.) was the only Coyote in double figures in kills with 10. Pedersen had a double-double by adding 13 digs, while setter Jaiden Van Horn (Elk Ridge, Utah) did as well with 40 assists and 11 digs.

Up next, the Coyotes come back to California to start conference play at the CCAA's newest member, UC Merced, on the road on Thursday. First serve is set for 5 p.m.
