ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino softball team saw its 2025 season come to a close on Wednesday afternoon, falling to Sonoma State University 3-1 in the First Round of the CCAA Tournament at Seawolf Softball Field.
The Coyotes scored the game's first run in the top of the fourth inning. The Yotes were able to load the bases with one out in the frame, and junior Alex Hooper (Auburn, Calif.) hit a sacrifice fly to left field to plate senior Emilie Lapeña (Buena Park, Calif.) from third base, giving CSUSB a 1-0 lead.
Sonoma State plated their only three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take their first lead of the game.
The Yotes got a baserunner in the top of the seventh to bring the tying run to the plate, but the Seawolves induced a fielder's choice to second to end the ballgame.
Lapeña and senior Tereise Tosi (Garden Grove, Calif.) each went 2-for-3 in the defeat to lead the CSUSB offense. Coyote junior Sarah Moite (Fresno, Calif.) recorded the only extra base hit of the game with a double down the right field line in the fifth.Â
In the circle, senior Brooke Blackmon (Exeter, Calif.) brought a shutout into the sixth inning, allowing just one earned run in the contest on six hits with five strikeouts.
