POMONA, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino baseball team defeated the Cal Poly Pomona Broncos 10-7 on Sunday afternoon at Scolinos Field.
With the win, the Coyotes improve to 15-7 overall and 7-5 in CCAA play.
CSUSB rallied for eight runs in the top of the fourth inning, starting when graduate student Daryl Ruiz (Corona, Calif.) put the Coyotes on the board with an RBI single to center field.
A few at-bats later, junior Dom Dominguez (Victorville, Calif.) hit the first of three consecutive singles that tied the game at 3-3. After a walk and a hit by pitch gave the Yotes a 5-3 lead, senior Tyler Vanneste (Warman, Saskatchewan) delivered a two-RBI single up the middle to make it 7-3. Ruiz added his second RBI single of the inning to extend the lead to 8-3.
The Broncos responded with one run in both the fourth and fifth innings, but CSUSB added to their lead in the sixth when junior Jeremy Giesegh (Upland, Calif.) hit a solo homer, making it 9-5 in favor of the Coyotes.
Cal Poly Pomona refused to go away. In the bottom of the eighth, the Broncos hit a two-RBI double to cut the Yotes lead to 9-7.
CSUSB answered in the top of the ninth with another run, as senior Wyatt Hall (Port Angeles, Wash.) hit an RBI triple to make it 10-7. The Coyotes' pitching held up in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win.

Matt Gonzales (Glendora, Calif.) each leading the way with 3-for-5 outings.
Up next, the Coyotes are back at home for a four-game series against Sonoma State starting on Friday. First pitch on Friday is set for 2 p.m.
