Box Score SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino baseball team fell 13-1 to Cal State Monterey Bay Friday afternoon in a CCAA contest at Fiscalini Field.
With the defeat, the Coyotes drop to 21-10 overall on the season and 12-5 in CCAA play.
Cal State Monterey Bay posted a single run in the top of the first and third innings, before breaking the game open with four in the fourth, two in the fifth, and two in the sixth.
CSUSB broke through in the bottom of the sixth when Jacob Mejia (Palm Desert, Calif.) notched an RBI single to center field, plating Jason Shedlock (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) from second base, cutting the deficit to 10-1.
Monterey Bay tacked on three more in the top of the ninth on a three-run homer.
Junior Matt Romero (Glendora, Calif.) was charged with the loss for CSUSB, allowing six earned over four innings. Sophomore Riley Ricken (Temecula, Calif.) was a bright spot for CSUSB out of the bullpen, throwing two no-hit innings.
The Coyotes and Otters will meet for games two and three of their series on Saturday. First pitch in the first game of the doubleheader is slated for 12 p.m.
