Women's Basketball Prevails in Regular Season Finale

TURLOCK, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's basketball team defeated the Stanislaus State Warriors 87-67 on Saturday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Arena.

With the win, the Coyotes finishes the regular season with a 16-11 overall record and a 15-7 mark in CCAA play.

CSUSB began the game strong, scoring on four consecutive possessions. Graduate students Tarryn Ross (Garden Grove, Calif.) contributed two field goals, while Jaida Jackson (Moreno Valley, Calif.) and Lauryn Morris (Irvine, Calif.) each added a basket. Senior Isabel Arango (Gardena, Calif.) came off the bench to score four points, including a layup and two free throws. Senior Deannah Buckner (Rialto, Calif.) capped the scoring with a jumper in the final minute of the first quarter, giving the Coyotes a 24-14 lead.

After the Warriors opened the second quarter with two quick baskets, CSUSB responded with a 6-0 run. Senior Mia Dufresne (Torrance, Calif.) scored two of her six points during this stretch. The Coyotes maintained their pace throughout the quarter and entered halftime with a 39-31 advantage.

In the second half, CSUSB kept up the pressure. Morris and Ross both added early baskets in the third quarter. Morris finished with a team-high 19 points, while Ross scored a season-high 18 points, including four three-pointers. Freshman Princess Cassell (Eastvale, Calif.) hit a pair of threes toward the end of the third quarter, helping the Coyotes extend their lead to 64-46 heading into the fourth.

CSUSB continued to dominate in the final period, building a lead as large as 28 points (84-56) with 3:13 remaining in the game.

The Coyotes' 87-point performance marked their second-highest scoring output of the season and their highest in a regulation game. Additionally, they matched their season-high rebounding margin, finishing +23 on the boards.

Next, CSUSB will play in the first round of the CCAA Tournament on Thursday as the No.4 seed at Cal State San Marcos where they will face the No. 5 seed Sonoma State. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m
