Men's Basketball Falls Short vs. #23 Cal State Dominguez Hills

CARSON, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino men's basketball team was narrowly edged out by #23 Cal State Dominguez Hills 84-82 in CCAA action Thursday evening inside the Torodome.

With the defeat, CSUSB drops to 16-8 overall on the season and 9-6 in CCAA play.

The Toros got off to a strong start, opening on a 9-3 run in just the first 3:09 of the contest, but three-pointers from Charlie Henderson (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) and Jordan Jones (Macon, Ga.) helped the Yotes back to a tie game at 11-11 just 68 seconds later.

The lead would change five more times in the opening 20 minutes, with Cal State Dominguez Hills carrying a narrow 47-46 lead into the locker room. Charlie Henderson and Andrew Henderson (Chatsworth, Calif.) led the way for the Coyotes in the first half, scoring 11 and 10 points respectively.

The second half alone featured six ties and eight lead changes, but it was Dominguez Hills that got the final one. The Yotes led by four at 79-75 with two and a half minutes to play, but a 6-0 Toro run put the hosts up by a bucket. Andrew Henderson gave the Yotes with lead with 25 seconds to play in the contest, but on the ensuing possession, the Toros took the lead for good on a bucket with eight seconds left that ultimately gave them the win.

The Coyotes had the chance to tie the game at the charity stripe, but missed the front end of the one-and-one, and moments later missed the mark on a halfcourt heave, giving the victory to Cal State Dominguez Hills.

Five Coyotes finished in double figures in the defeat, led by Andew Henderson with 17. Nic Welp (Seattle, Wash.) and Evan Oliver (San Bernardino, Calif.) each posted 15, while Charlie Henderson and Jones each had 13.

Next up for San Bernardino, they will travel across town to take on Cal State Los Angeles on Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
