Women's Basketball Downs San Francisco State on Senior Day

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's basketball team defeated the San Francisco State Gators 78-53 on Saturday afternoon at Coussoulis Arena.

With the win, the Coyotes improved to 14-11 overall and 13-7 in CCAA play.

Before the game, seven Cal State San Bernardino seniors and graduate students were honored as they played in their final regular season home game at Coussoulis Arena. Deannah Buckner (Rialto, Calif.), Tarryn Ross (Garden Grove, Calif.), Lauryn Morris (Irvine, Calif.), Isabel Arango (Gardena, Calif.), Rae McCrae (Sacramento, Calif.), Mia Dufresne (Torrance, Calif.), and Jaida Jackson (Moreno Valley, Calif.) were joined on the court by their friends and family for the pregame ceremony.

CSUSB came out strong with a 6-0 run to start the game. Dufresne scored the opening basket, and graduate student Lauryn Morris (Irvine, Calif.) capped the run with a jumper, marking her career milestone of 1,000 points.

The Coyotes built a 22-6 lead later in the first quarter after a three-pointer from Ross, who finished with a season-high 16 points, 11 rebounds, and three three-pointers.

CSUSB continued to maintain control in the second quarter, heading into halftime with a 38-25 lead. Buckner contributed six points and a couple of steals in the quarter, including the final basket of the half.

The Coyotes came out firing in the third quarter with a 16-0 run, extending their lead to 54-25. Jackson made two free throws and recorded two of her season-high nine assists during the run.

CSUSB kept up its dominant play in the fourth quarter, leading 68-35 early—its largest lead of the game. Arango added a basket, while McCrae hit her first three-pointer of the season as part of a seven-point effort.

Up next, the Coyotes travel north for their final week of play. They will face Cal State Monterey Bay on Thursday, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
