SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino baseball team defeated the Central Washington University Wildcats 19-4 on Friday evening at Fiscalini Field.
With the win, the Coyotes improve to 6-2.
CSUSB would get on the board in the bottom of the first after Tyler Vanneste (Warman, Saskatchewan) reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Jason Shedlock (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) from second. Later in the inning, junior Dom Dominguez (Victorville, Calif.) hit a two-run opposite field home run to make it 3-0.
Central Washington would respond with a solo home run off the very first pitch to lead off the second inning to make it 3-1 in favor of the Yotes.
A Shedlock RBI single and a Wyatt Hall (Port Angeles, Wash.) RBI groundout gave CSUSB a 5-1 lead.
The Coyotes scored three in the fourth, two in the fifth, and two in the sixth before really breaking the game open with six in seventh to grab an 18-2 lead. A two-run pinch-hit home run from senior Alec Bressler (Beaumont, Calif.) was the biggest blow of the frame.
The offense was on point tonight; in all, 12 different players recorded a hit and 13 recorded a run scored.
Junior Matt Romero (Glendora, Calif.) threw five solid innings to pick up the win. The bullpen would come through to hold the lead led by sophomore Ivan Rodriguez (San Bernardino, Calif.), who threw three shutout innings in relief.
Jacob Mejia (Palm Desert, Calif.) led CSUSB offensively with three hits, while Shedlock, Dominguez, Adrian Hinojosa Jr. (Chula Vista, Calif.), and Benji Solano (Chula Vista, Calif.) each recorded a pair of hits.
Up next, the Coyotes will complete their series against Central Washington with a doubleheader tomorrow. First pitch of the first game is slated for 12 p.m.
