SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino men's basketball suffered a 63-45 defeat at the hands of Cal State Los Angeles in a CCAA contest Saturday afternoon at Coussoulis Arena.
With the defeat, the Coyotes fall to 3-6 overall on the season and 0-2 in the CCAA.
The Coyote offense struggled to get going in the first half, scoring only 14 points and shooting 5-of-26 (19.2 percent) from the floor. The Yotes made none of their nine three-point attempts in the half. Redshirt senior Walter Hamilton (Lake Center, Miss.) was the only Coyote with more than two points, putting home four on 2-for-2 shooting.
The Yotes outscored Cal State Los Angeles 31-28 in the second half, but the damage was done in the first half. Gavin Davis (Carson, Calif.), Xavier Clinton (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.), and Zion Paleo (Diamond Bar, Calif.) each had seven points to lead all players in the second half.
No Coyote got into double figures in scoring in the loss, despite Clinton narrowly missing a double-double with nine points and a team-high nine rebounds.
For the game, the Coyotes hit just 14 of their 59 field goal attempts, a clip of 23.7 percent. CSUSB looked sharp at the free throw line, hitting 17 of 21 (81.0 percent), but failed to make a three-pointer in the defeat with 17 misses.
Next up for the Coyotes, they will travel to Stanislaus State on Friday, December 19. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m.
