TURLOCK, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino men's basketball team rallied to defeat Stanislaus State 81-73 Friday evening in a CCAA contest at Fitzpatrick Arena.
With the victory, the Coyotes improve to 4-6 overall on the season and 1-2 in the CCAA.
CSUSB struggled offensively in the first half, scoring only 28 points and carrying an eight-point deficit into the locker room. Redshirt senior Gavin Davis (Carson, Calif.) scored nearly half of CSUSB's points with 12 points in the half, as the Yotes shot just 11-of-32 (34.4 percent) from the floor.
CSUSB looked like a completely different team in the second half as they began to climb back into the contest. The Coyotes trailed by 10 just under four and a half minutes into the second half at 43-33, but responded with an 18-7 lead to take their first lead since early in the contest at 51-50 with 10:47 remaining.
After trading baskets over the next few possessions, the Coyotes went on an 11-1 run to grab a nine-point lead at 62-53 with just over eight minutes remaining, and would never trail again. They would stretch their lead to as many of 14 points down the stretch on their way to the 81-73 victory.Â
A season-high five players hit double figures in the win for CSUSB. Leading the way was freshman Zion Paleo (Diamond Bar, Calif.) with 15 points, helped by 11-for-11 shooting from the charity stripe. Fellow guard Aidan Fowler (San Clemente, Calif.) had 13 points in the win, while Davis finished with 12. Sophomore Pablo Soumare (Dakar, Senegal) and redshirt junior Malachi Murrell (La Quinta, Calif.) each had 11 in the CSUSB victory.
The Coyotes will be back in action on Sunday, facing UC Merced on the road. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
