SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The #24 California State University San Bernardino men's soccer team fell to #3 Stanislaus State 3-2 Friday afternoon in a CCAA contest at Premier Field.
With the defeat, the Coyotes fall to 5-2-3 overall on the season and 0-1-1 in CCAA action.
Stanislaus State opened the scoring early, finding the back of the net in just the fourth minute, but the advantage was short-lived. In the 10th minute, the Coyotes equalized on a marker from Tony Negrete (Hawaiian Gardens, Calif.). His shot redirected in off a Stanislaus State defender, and was assisted by Anthony Morales (Orange, Calif.).
The Coyotes had a handful of grade-A chances in half number one, but were unable to take the lead. San Bernardino outshot Stanislaus 14-4 in the half, including 7-2 on goal.Â
Stan State retook the lead in the 62nd minute, but this time their lead lasted only 47 seconds before Morales buried a penalty to level the score again.Â
The Warriors took their third and final lead of the afternoon on an unassisted tally in the 76th minute. The Coyotes pushed in the final 14 minutes, but could not find their third equalizer of the day.
In goal, senior Juanpablo Camacho (Norwalk, Calif.) turned aside three shots in the defeat. He moves to 3-2-0 on the season.
Next up, the Yotes will face UC Merced on Sunday for the first time as conference opponents. Kickoff from Premier Field is slated for 11:30 a.m.
