Men's Basketball Breezes Past #24 Chico State

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino men's basketball team defeated #24 Chico State in CCAA action Thursday evening at Coussoulis Arena.

With the victory, the Coyotes improve to 16-6 overall and 9-4 in the CCAA. The victory is their fifth in a row.

The Coyotes controlled the play in the opening 20 minutes, leading by as many as 11 points before finishing the half with a 43-35 lead. Four Coyotes hit double figures before the halftime horn sounded, led by 12 points from senior Charlie Henderson (Ladera Ranch, Calif.).

CSUSB pulled away right from the jump coming out of the locker room, opening the second half on a 19-2 run in the first 5:20 of the period to take a commanding 62-37 lead. The 18-point final margin was as close as Chico State would get in the second half, as the Yotes were able to cruise the rest of the way.

A handful of Coyotes had massive stat lines in the lopsided victory, including three double-doubles. Charlie Henderson was the contest's leading scorer with 22 points and 10 boards, while classmate Nic Welp (Seattle, Wash.) posted 17 points and 13 boards. Playing against his former team, Evan Oliver went off for 19 points and a season-high 10 assists, to go along with five steals.

Andrew Henderson (Chatsworth, Calif.) rounded out CSUSB's double-digit scorers, dropping 20 points in the win.

Next up for CSUSB, they'll look to extend their win streak to six when Cal Poly Humboldt comes to town on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is slated for 3 p.m.
