SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino men's soccer team faced off against No. 7 Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday afternoon at Premier Field, tying 2-2 in a non-conference contest.
With the tie, the Coyotes complete non-conference play with a 2-1-3 record.
Cal State San Bernardino capitalized on a Pomona error at the back in the 17th minute, taking the lead early with a goal from sophomore Rafa Fonseca (Fontana, Calif.). Credited with an assist on the play was junior Angel Rico (Pasadena, Calif.).Â
Seven minutes later, Cal Poly Pomona responded with a goal of their own, knotting the score at one heading into halftime.
Cal Poly Pomona would take the lead with a 63rd minute goal that would hold for most of the half. In the 89th minute however, Coyote senior forward Brian Castillo (North Hollywood, Calif.) waited out the Bronco keeper to score an unassisted equalizer, giving the game its final score of 2-2.Â
With the markers, Castillo and Fonseca are each now tied for third in the CCAA in goals with four.
In net, senior Aiden Hanes (Riverside, Calif.) made one save to earn his third draw of the season.
Next up for CSUSB is the start of conference play. The Coyotes will host Cal State Monterey Bay on Friday, October 4 at noon.
