ROHNERT PARK, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino baseball team dropped its series finale 6-5 against Sonoma State Sunday at Seawolf Diamond.
With the defeat, CSUSB drops to 20-24 on the season and 13-21 in the CCAA.
The Coyotes got on the board first with an RBI sacrifice fly in the top of the first inning from senior
Daniel Garcia Jr. (San Bernardino, Calif.), putting the visitors ahead 1-0.
Sonoma State scored a pair in the bottom of the first to take a 2-1 lead, but the Coyotes had an answer of their own in the top of the second. Freshman
Eric Aguayo (Riverside, Calif.) drove in the tying run with a base hit to center field.Â
Sonoma State scored once in the second and two in the fourth to take a 5-2 advantage. A
Jeremy Giesegh (Upland, Calif.) sacrifice fly and Garcia reach on error pulled the Yotes to within one at 5-4 after four and a half innings, but Sonoma went back ahead by two with a sacrifice fly of their own in the bottom of the fifth.
CSUSB drew to within one when they scored on a bases loaded passed ball in the top of the seventh, but that was as close as they would get.
Aguayo led CSUSB with a pair of hits, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
Next up for the Coyotes, they will play the first game of their final series of the season against Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
