SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino softball team dropped a pair of California Collegiate Athletic Association contests to Cal State East Bay on Friday afternoon at the CSUSB Softball Park.
The Coyotes fell 7-3 in game one, before suffering a 14-3 defeat in five innings in game two.
With the defeats, the Coyotes fall to 7-8 overall and 4-6 in the CCAA.
Game 1 - Cal State East Bay 7, Cal State San Bernardino 3
East Bay belted a pair of home runs in the top of the first inning to take an early 3-0 advantage, but the Coyotes got one back in the bottom of the frame when junior
Bri Goris (Chino, Calif.) drew a bases loaded walk, plating sophomore
Brooke Brazill (Clovis, Calif.).
The score was still 3-1 in the top of the fifth inning, but the Pioneers exploded for four runs to take a commanding 7-1 lead.
The Coyotes cut into the advantage when Brazill connected for a two-run shot, her first collegiate home run, in the bottom of the fifth. That would be as close as the Yotes would get however, as the game ended 7-3.
Brazill and junior Emilie Lapeña (Buena Park, Calif.) were the only two Coyotes to notch multiple hits in the defeat. Brazill was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.
Game 2 - Cal State East Bay 14, Cal State San Bernardino 3 (5 Innings)
The Pioneers scored seven runs in the top of the first inning to take early control of the contest before the Yotes even came to the plate.Â
Cal State San Bernardino scored a pair in the bottom of the inning on a Lapeña RBI groundout and a Goris RBI single.
In the second, the Yotes scored again to move to within four at 7-3 on a Lapeña RBI fielder's choice, but that would be the end of the CSUSB offense on the afternoon.
Six fourth-inning runs and one more in the fifth from East Bay the final score of 14-3.
Seniors
Shannon Galliano (San Mateo, Calif.) and
Hayden Greene (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) each recorded a pair of hits in the defeat for the Coyotes.
The teams will play games three and four of their series on Saturday at the CSUSB Softball Park. First pitch in game one of the doubleheader is slated for 10 a.m., weather permitting.
