SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino men's basketball team knocked off California State University Monterey Bay by a commanding final score of 94-55 on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Coussoulis Arena.
With the win, the Coyotes improve to 21-6 overall on the season and 16-5 in the CCAA.
Before the contest, the CSUSB Department of Athletics celebrated five members of its men's basketball senior class, competing in their final regular season game at Coussoulis Arena. Seniors Sam Freeman (Dallas, Texas), Jalen Flanagan (Oceanside, Calif.), Sedrick Altman (Rialto, Calif.), Robby Robinson (San Diego, Calif.), and LeAndrew Knight (Lompoc, Calif.) were joined on the court by their friends and families for the pre-game celebration.
The Otters took an early lead on a Jailen Nelson three-pointer 51 seconds into the contest, but 3-0 would be their only lead of the game. The Yotes dominated the rest of the half, taking an 18-point lead at 49-31 into the intermission. Robinson led the way for the Yotes with 15 points and five boards before the break, and was one of six Coyotes who brought five or more points into the locker room for San Bernardino.
CSUSB did not slow down after the break, shooting a red hot 61.3 percent (19-for-31) from the floor to run away with the victory. Conversely, Monterey Bay shot just 25.8 percent (8-for-31) in the second half.
Robinson finished as the game's leading scorer with 24 points, and was just one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards. Junior Evan Guillory (Springfield, Mo.) poured in 16 points to go along with seven boards and five assists, while classmate Chris Mitchell (Oceanside, Calif.) dropped 14 points.
The contest's lone double-double belonged to Knight, who posted 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Next up for CSUSB, they will close out their regular season on the road at Cal Poly Pomona on Thursday night. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
