HAYWARD, Calif. - The California State University San Bernardino women's volleyball team took down Cal State East Bay 3-1 in CCAA action Saturday afternoon at Pioneer Gymnasium. Set scores were 25-18, 25-14, 22-25, and 25-23.
With the victory, Cal State San Bernardino improves to 14-9 overall on the season and 10-6 in CCAA play. The win punches CSUSB's ticket to the CCAA Tournament, which will take place in two weeks at Cal Poly Pomona.
The first set went back and forth in the early stages, before CSUSB pulled away thanks in part to a 7-0 run that saw the Coyote lead go from 13-11 to 20-11. Senior Savannah Hoffmann (Rialto, Calif.) led all players with five kills in set number one, while sophomore Kacie Pedersen (Riverside, Calif.) posted four kills.
The Yotes went wire-to-wire in set two to win 25-14 and take a 2-0 lead in the match. Senior Ashley Robinson (Tucson, Ariz.) led all players with five kills in the set, as the visitors hit .385 as a team.
Cal State East Bay flipped the script by never trailing in set three, extending the match for the hosts despite six kills from Robinson for CSUSB.
East Bay won the first five points of set four, but the Coyotes rallied all the way back to clinch the match. Robinson had six more kills for CSUSB, while Jaiden Van Horn (Elk Ridge, Utah) and Jayden Chornomud (Murrieta, Calif.) each posted four digs.
Robinson finished the afternoon with a match-high 20 kills, while Pedersen had 15 with an attack percentage of .419. Van Horn had a strong performance leading the Coyote offense, posting 30 assists, her third highest output of the season.
The Yotes will return home for the final two contests of the regular season, starting Thursday against Cal Poly Pomona. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
