ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The #14 California State University San Bernardino men's basketball team defeated #15 Central Washington University 76-59 Friday evening at the CCAA-GNAC Crossover at Nicholson Arena.
With the victory, CSUSB improves to 3-1 overall on the young season.
The Coyotes scored the game's first seven points, capped by a Charlie Henderson (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) three, and never looked back once on their way to a wire-to-wire victory.Â
The Yotes would go on to outscore Central Washington 34-26 in the first half to take an eight-point lead into the locker room. Graduate student Evan Oliver (San Bernardino, Calif.) was huge for the visitors in the opening half, scoring 18 points.
Central Washington cut the deficit down to as little as two in the early stages of the second half, but the Yotes proved too much, pulling ahead by as many as 19 points on their way to their third consecutive victory. Junior Sam Ibeh (Toronto, Ontario) was the leading Coyote scorer in the second half, scoring 10 points to help CSUSB lock down the win.
Oliver finished as the contest's leading scorer, dropping 21 points to go along with seven assists. Henderson had 15 points of his own to go along with a game-high seven boards, while Ibeh notched 12 points on 5-for-6 (83.3 percent) shooting off the bench.
CSUSB shot 50.0 percent (29-for-58) from the floor in the win, including 9-of-20 (45.0 percent) from beyond the arc. The Coyotes out-rebounded the Wildcats by a margin of 35-30.
Next up for the Yotes, they will wrap up the CCAA-GNAC Crossover Sunday morning against Western Oregon at Nicholson Arena. Tip-off is slated for 11 a.m.
